Encinitas is one of the greatest surf towns in America. In addition, Swamis Beach is one of the most sacred surf spots on the planet. Unfortunately, some new politics has pierced our beloved town. Sadly, these heinous groups are trying to cancel our surf culture.
Swamis Beach got it’s name from the famous Swami Paramahansa Yogananda in 1937. Yogananda built the Self Realization Fellowship overlooking this world class point break in Encinitas. A “swami” is considered to be a religious figure and Hinduism is the world’s oldest religion. In due time, the surf break became sacred because of it’s location as well as being one of the premier big surfing spots in California.
Swamis is so sacred locals won’t allow surf contests here. For many surfers, Swamis is their church and surfing is their religion. As a result, any notion of having a surf contest or using this sacred ground for political agendas provokes outrage in the surf community. Given these points, the world renown Swamis Surf Club won’t even hold a surf contest at their own break.
Noob groups disrespecting tradition and surf culture.
Over the last couple of years some goofball political groups have disrespected this location. Some new nonprofits have popped up recently who are not familiar with surf culture. What’s more is that these groups hold extremist political views and completely lack respect for tradition and surf culture. As a result, some of them have tried the spread their political disease at arguably the least political surf spot in the world.
In essence, you have these super chill surfers and hippies on one hand. But on the other hand oh, you have these brain-washed political ideologist trying to take over everything. These groups represent everything the opposite of the values of our sacred Swami’s. This is not a location for greedy money-grubbing brainwashed people who show up from places that know nothing about surfing nor surfing culture. These people completely lack respect for our culture and traditions and all of Encinitas has grown resentful of them.
With these nonprofit groups are finding out is that the surf community will fight to protect our sacred spots. It’s such a shame that a Beach Community is even dealing such ignorance. Most people know that if you go somewhere you respect the traditions and cultures. These people don’t care and they do anything for money. For that same reason there will never be peace and harmony so long as greedy entitled people continue disrespecting sacred culture.
